ENSBA – During treatment – Teared photograph – Water based poultice – Removal of reinforcing paper

During treatment – applying a water-based poultice on the back of the reinforcing paper strips to soften the adhesive.

The use of a poultice allows the conservator to apply water or solvent slowly rather than applying it directly onto the print. Thus the addition of water is done under control and very slowly, in order to avoid a very sudden shock for the photograph.
